Sony Bravia 3 (2024) V/S Sony X80L (2023)

The Sony Bravia 3 (2024) is the direct successor to the Sony X80L (2023).

The Bottom Line: These two TVs are nearly identical in performance and hardware. Sony rebranded their lineup in 2024 (Bravia 3, 7, 8, 9), and the “Bravia 3” essentially takes the place of the X80L.

If you can find the X80L on clearance for a lower price, buy it. You will get 99% of the same performance. If the prices are the same, buy the Bravia 3 simply because it is newer and may receive software updates for a year longer.

Key Differences (Or Lack Thereof)

1. Picture Quality (Tie)

Both TVs use the entry-level X1 Processor (not the powerful “XR” processor found in the Bravia 7 or X90L). They both use standard LED panels without “Local Dimming,” meaning blacks will look more like dark grey in a dark room. They are both bright enough for sports and TV shows but struggle with cinematic movies in dark rooms.

2. Gaming (Tie)

Neither TV is designed for the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X’s full potential.

  • No 120Hz: Both are stuck at 60Hz.

  • No VRR: Neither supports Variable Refresh Rate (which prevents screen tearing).

  • Good for Casual Gaming: Both support ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode), meaning they will automatically switch to “Game Mode” when you turn on your console to reduce lag.

3. Design & Remote (Minor Win for Bravia 3)

The Bravia 3 ships with Sony’s newer “Eco Remote” in most regions, which is made of recycled speckled plastic. It also features a slightly updated “Game Menu” interface, though the X80L received similar features via update.

Which one should you buy?

  • Buy the X80L if: It is cheaper. Since it is the “outgoing” 2023 model, retailers often discount it to clear stock. It offers the same visual experience as the newer model.

  • Buy the Bravia 3 if: The price is the same as the X80L, or if you cannot find the X80L in stock.

Note: If you are a gamer looking for 120Hz support for PS5, you need to step up to the Sony X85L (2023) or the Bravia 7 (2024).
